When is a dog backpack suitable?
A dog backpack is useful anytime you want to keep your dog safely with you – in the city, on public transport, while travelling, or during sports (hiking, cycling, skiing).

We generally recommend a maximum of 30 minutes, followed by a break so your dog can move freely. Regular breaks and monitoring your dog’s comfort are essential. High-quality ergonomic backpacks (such as Little Chonk models) can allow for longer carrying times without putting strain on the dog’s back.
How does a dog get into the backpack?
This depends on the backpack brand – each system is designed to be safe, stable, and natural for the dog.
K9 Sports Sack backpacks
The backpack opens at the back. The dog sits inside, put its front legs through the designated openings, the backpack is zipped up, and the dog is secured with an internal safety clip. The dog sits upright inside the backpack, often described as sitting “on the bum.”
Little Chonk backpacks
The backpack opens fully along the sides. The dog lies down inside, a safety strap is fastened around the neck or chest, the sides are zipped closed, and the dog is secured with a safety clip. Thanks to the extra space for shoulders and legs, smaller dogs can also sit comfortably to the side.
