Felt Dog – Brooch, Christmas Ornament and Finger Puppet
Looking for a gift for a dog lover that isn’t another mug? This little dog is hand-cut and sewn from felt in the Czech Republic. It fits in your palm and every piece is an original. As a brooch, it goes on a coat or a backpack, and with a piece of string it becomes a Christmas tree ornament. As a finger puppet, it entertains kids and grown-ups alike.
Why you’ll love it
- Hand-sewn in the Czech Republic – every stitch done by hand, no mass production from Asia.
- Sewn from felt – soft to the touch, holds its shape and lasts for years.
- Two versions – a brooch that doubles as a tree ornament, or a finger puppet.
- 11 breeds and characters – from dachshund to dalmatian, you’ll find your dog.
- 20 CZK from every piece to shelters – a gift that helps twice.
Most Christmas ornaments and small gifts today are plastic, made anonymously and meant for one season. This felt dog is the opposite: a small thing with a story, sewn by hand by a real person, Jana. Take it off the tree in January and pin it to your jacket. Dog owners will spot their own dog in it, and you won’t have to overthink the gift.
Two versions
Brooch and Christmas ornament
On the back there is a bar pin. Pin it to a coat, scarf, hat or backpack strap. Thread a string or ribbon through it and you have a unique felt Christmas ornament. Each dog wears a small metal DOG charm.
Finger puppet
The dog is open at the bottom and slips onto your finger. It’s great for playing with children, storytelling, or as a small advent calendar surprise.
What it’s made of
Each dog is cut from felt and hand-stitched with a blanket stitch. Felt doesn’t fray at the edges, stays soft and keeps its shape, so it still looks good after years on the tree.
Size: roughly palm-sized, approx. 8–10 cm. Each piece is an original, so colours and details may vary slightly.
Who’s behind it
FUNKY DOG is a charitable foundation and dog accessories brand. Since 2015 we have been making products by hand in the Czech Republic, from natural materials and with fair pay. So far we have redistributed more than 3.8 million CZK to animals in need.
FAQ
Is it a dog toy?
No. It’s a decoration and a toy for people. A dog could chew and swallow the felt or the metal charm.
Can small children play with the finger puppet?
Recommended for ages 3+. Supervise play.
How do I hang the brooch on the tree?
Thread a string or ribbon around the brooch’s bar pin. String not included.
How do I care for it?
Gently brush or spot clean with a damp cloth, max. 40 °C. Don’t machine wash, as the felt may shrink.
Will mine look exactly like the photo?
Each piece is cut and sewn by hand, so small differences in colour and stitching are normal. That’s what makes it an original.
Where does the donation go?
20 CZK from every felt dog goes through Nadační fond FUNKY DOG to Czech animal shelters and rescue stations.

I founded FUNKY DOG in August 2015. My name is Katka, and it all started with a bow tie.
In 2011 I passed a little dachshund mix on the street wearing a red bow tie on his collar. I knew right away that my Kadlo needed one too. I searched for four years - shops, vintage stores, second-hand places - but bow ties seemed to have vanished. Then in the summer of 2015 I finally found a men’s one I liked. Kadlo wore it all the time, and people kept stopping us on the street because of it. If nobody makes bow ties for dogs, I thought, I’ll make them myself. I designed the shape and the fastening so it would slip easily onto a collar or a harness, and started sewing.
From the very first piece I knew the sales had to help animals, the same way I’ve been involved in helping abandoned and abused animals my whole life. We donate 10 to 30 % of the price of every product to shelters and animals in need. The bow tie became our signature: a dog wearing one is supporting its friends in shelters.
Over time we added collars, leashes, dog beds and even our own insect-based treats. We make everything from hemp, linen and cotton, locally in the Czech Republic, and our textile products are sewn in a sheltered workshop. Together with two colleagues I also wrote a cookbook for dogs, Neštěkej a jez! (Don’t Bark, Eat!).
For ten years, the face of the brand was Mr. Cuddlo, our Kadlo, a purebred “hazelnut” with a big personality. He left us in 2025. His bow tie is now worn by Sendy, a ten-year-old lady we adopted.
