FUNKY DOG
I founded FUNKY DOG in August 2015. My name is Katka, and it all started with a bow tie.
In 2011 I passed a little dachshund mix on the street wearing a red bow tie on his collar. I knew right away that my Kadlo needed one too. I searched for four years - shops, vintage stores, second-hand places - but bow ties seemed to have vanished. Then in the summer of 2015 I finally found a men’s one I liked. Kadlo wore it all the time, and people kept stopping us on the street because of it. If nobody makes bow ties for dogs, I thought, I’ll make them myself. I designed the shape and the fastening so it would slip easily onto a collar or a harness, and started sewing.
From the very first piece I knew the sales had to help animals, the same way I’ve been involved in helping abandoned and abused animals my whole life. We donate 10 to 30 % of the price of every product to shelters and animals in need. The bow tie became our signature: a dog wearing one is supporting its friends in shelters.
Over time we added collars, leashes, dog beds and even our own insect-based treats. We make everything from hemp, linen and cotton, locally in the Czech Republic, and our textile products are sewn in a sheltered workshop. Together with two colleagues I also wrote a cookbook for dogs, Neštěkej a jez! (Don’t Bark, Eat!).
For ten years, the face of the brand was Mr. Cuddlo, our Kadlo, a purebred “hazelnut” with a big personality. He left us in 2025. His bow tie is now worn by Sendy, a ten-year-old lady we adopted.
